IF train ticket sales, which are being offered on social media platforms with a service charge, are found, legal action will be taken under existing laws, said the Myanma Railways (MR).
For the convenience of train passengers, the MR has launched the web-based Online Railways Ticketing and Payment System (ORTP) that allows ticket purchase online for passenger express trains for the journey from Yangon to Mandalay, which started on 1 February 2026.
It allowed technology companies which won the tender for developing and investing in its ORTP system to collect K200 per ticket for their technology service fee at the official bank transfer rate on 4 April, and now it has heard that train ticket sales are being offered on social media platforms- TikTok, Facebook, Telegram and Viber with a charge. For those who have difficulty buying tickets online, ticket counters have been provided at train stations, and the station employees have helped passengers in buying tickets using the ORTP system. No one else is permitted to collect charges for ticket services, the MR said. MR warned that no train ticket sales on social media are allowed, and legal actions will be taken for breaching this rule.
