THIS week’s pick is a book to inspire women to live a courageous woman’s life, stating that “Pushing through adversity will build endurance and wisdom to remain resilient in tackling whatever comes next. Let’s cultivate strength and insight by embracing difficulties”.
The book titled Becoming a Woman of Courage is written by May Su (Yamanya Myay), and it is the third edition published by Moe Kaung Myay Publishing.
In the book’s preface, the author noted that she wrote it to remind every woman of her inner strength, explain what those strengths are and inspire and empower her to reclaim her personal power.
“I believe that every woman has faced many challenges and immense difficulties in the currents of life. Being a woman myself, I came to understand women’s feelings and experiences through my own life and through the true stories of other women who opened up to me. This inspired me to write this book: Becoming a Woman of Courage,” the author noted.
Furthermore, this book is a compilation of her personal opinions and some real-life experiences. Nonetheless, this statement cannot be considered an absolute truth. Readers’ judgement is encouraged. Consequently, they will develop the ability to distinguish right from wrong to move forward in life.
The author expresses her hope that “this book will be a good companion in life, helping to show you the way. I believe that after reading this book, you will have faith in yourself, learn to love yourself, and stand as a courageous woman capable of overcoming anything life throws at you.”
The book starts with the powerful phrase “Becoming a courageous woman”, “We women are like flowers. From birth, we tend to be more sensitive, emotional, and easily hurt. Women are very gentle and delicate by nature. Women possess deep moral emotions like shame and fear. We are easily affected and have immense loving-kindness. However, we must not forget that if we are always fragile and overly sensitive, we become more prone to collapse. Though women are gentle, we need to be strong and bold when the time comes, we need to walk through life’s storms, we have to be decisive when we need to be decisive, and confident and firm in our choices. Only then can we process our feelings, let go of what holds us back, and free ourselves from a painful past.
Believe in yourself. A woman who stands on her own cannot afford to be weak, and she must be courageous. As some tend to prey on the weak, you will become a victim. Therefore, you must make decisions as sharp as a blade, irrespective of your tender heart. Only then will those who approach you treat you according to the standard you set and the boundaries you enforce by embracing your worth and creating an invisible shield.
Comprising 39 works across five chapters, this book is an essential read for women seeking to discover their inherent beauty and virtues, find resilience in the face of setbacks, and redefine their inner strength.
