MYANMA Railways (MR) has announced schedule adjustments and service expansions on several key routes, including Yangon, Mandalay, Nay Pyi Taw, Thazi, and Mawlamyine, to better serve passengers.

Following the successful launch of the air-conditioned DEMU Express trains (No 5 Up train/No 6 Down train) for the Yangon-Mandalay trips on 1 May, MR will expand the service due to high passenger demand starting 15 May, with No 3 Up train and No 4 Down train, departing from both cities at 6 am.

The existing DEMU trains (No 5 Up train/No 6 Down train) will be rescheduled to depart at 7 am starting 15 May. Similarly, new schedules for regional RBE short-distance services are adjusted for the Thazi-Nay Pyi Taw, Nay Pyi Taw-Toungoo, and Toungoo-Bago routes.

Fares are K5,000 (full trip)/K2,500 (half trip) for the Thazi-Nay Pyi Taw-Toungoo route, K8,000 (full trip)/K4,000 (half trip) for the Toungoo-Bago railway. These trains will stop at every station along the route.

Starting 15 May, several long-distance express sched ules will also change, and equipment will be upgraded. Tickets for the modern DEMU Express trains on the Yangon-Mandalay railway can be purchased via the Online Railways Ticketing and Payment (ORTP) system. Booking can be made seven days in advance for end-to-end journeys; three days in advance for intermediate stations. — MT/ZN
