THE exhibition commemorating the 70th Anniversary of the Sixth Buddhist Council is being held daily at the Maha Pasana Cave on Kaba Aye Hill in Mayangon Township, Yangon Region, from 9 am to 5 pm and is crowded with a large number of visitors.

Teachers and students from Hlegu Education Degree College, Hmawby monastic schools, staff and families, nuns, monks and people visited the exhibition yesterday. The exhibition features 10 booths, covering the First to the Sixth Buddhist Councils and contemporary religious activities. In booth 10, it displays stone inscriptions of Shwedagon, Maha Muni Buddha Image, Uppatasanti, Maha Lawka Marazein Kuthotaw pagodas, religious activities of the National Defence and Security Council, and efforts of the kings who made propagation of Sasana.

Moreover, people can see the efforts of the President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar in religious affairs at the exhibition. The director of the Yangon Region Religious Affairs Department elaborated, “Although we were not alive during the Sixth Buddhist Council, we are fortunate that the President organized this 70th anniversary, allowing all Buddhists to once again pay homage and gain many benefits.

Since the exhibition presents detailed historical endeavours of the Sixth Buddhist Council, people can now learn about religious history and records that they previously did not know or had never experienced. If Buddhists observe, study, and feel inspired to continue preserving and safeguarding the Sasana, then this exhibition becomes a great source of strength for Buddhism.

It is both an encouragement for Theravada Buddhism and an opportunity to revisit and appreciate the great Sixth Buddhist Synod. From my point of view, being able to pay homage to these historical records is a special meritorious deed.”
