1. To mitigate transboundary haze and PM2.5 air pollution, the Government of Thailand permits the importation of hybrid maize (monsoon) exclusively from cultivation areas where slash-and-burn practices have not been employed. Consequently, in regions where hybrid maize is grown for export to Thailand, verification is systematically conducted through retrospective inspections. These inspections are based on fire hotspot detection data provided by the Singapore-based ASEAN Specialized Meteorological Centre (ASMC). Following these verification procedures, the Government-Private Working Group on Registration for the Issuance of Haze-Free Certification issues the necessary certifications to confirm that the cultivation areas are free from activities that cause haze.
2. Accordingly, farmers intending to cultivate hybrid maize are hereby notified that slash-and-burn practices are strictly prohibited within designated cultivation areas before the hybrid maize (monsoon) planting season.
