THERE were just 0.04 per cent of COVID-19 cases identified in May first week but it rose to 2.28 per cent in June second week, according to the Ministry of Health.
Of 2285 laboratory tests from 8 to 15 June, 52 were identified as new confirmed COVID-19 cases.
Of these cases, 17 are from Yangon Region, 7 are from Magway Region’s Gangaw Township, each one from Mandalay Region’s Pyigyidagun Township and TadaU Township, one from Nay Pyi Taw’s Zabuthiri Township, one from Shan State’s Kengtung Township and recorded the highest in Mon State with 24 cases and of which 23 are from Bilin Township and one from Kyaikto Township.
So far, there is no concern over COVID-19 spread and fatality rate; however, the public will need to follow personal protective health guidelines, said the Ministry of Health.
Additional doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been prioritized for vulnerable groups such as older people aged 60 years and above, people with diabetes, chronic lung disease, cancers and pregnant women, it said.
