Through trilateral cooperation between Myanmar, China and Thailand authorities continue to investigate and take decisive action against those involved in online scams and online gambling, including foreign nationals orchestrating such operations.

As part of these efforts, authorities detained 265 foreign undocumented entrants yesterday in Myawady-Shwe Kokko, who had crossed into Myanmar through illegal routes. Officials are now collecting the necessary personal information and records to facilitate their prompt repatriation to their respective countries. Kayin State government’s Minister for Security and Border Affairs Colonel Min Thu Kyaw supervised the operation, inspecting conditions and meeting with responsible officials. He emphasized the importance of ensuring the detainees’ well-being, including healthcare, food, security and repatriation without unnecessary delays.

Between 30 January and 4 March 2025, authorities identified and detained a total of 3,992 undocumented foreign entrants in Myanmar. Among them, 757 individuals have already been repatriated as per legal procedures via Thailand, while arrangements are being finalized for the remaining 3,235 detainees to be sent back to their respective countries.

The 3,992 detained individuals include nationals from China, Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Pakistan, India, Uganda, Ethiopia, Nepal, Thailand, Rwanda, Kenya, Kazakhstan, Cambodia, Ghana and Chinese Taipei, with the majority being Chinese nationals.
