REPAIR work is continuing on the slope of Ma Mya Dam in Myanaung Township, Ayeyawady Region, following a subsidence of the reservoir embankment on the morning of 10 October. Water is being released through the emergency spillway to reduce the dam’s water level.
To protect the affected section along the dam’s upper waterline from rainwater, sunlight and wave impacts, tarpaulins are being carefully placed over the area. Earthwork is also being carried out to prevent further subsidence and strengthen the outer base of the embankment slope. Tatmadaw members from the South-West Command, Myanmar Police Force members, firefighters, departmental officials and locals are working together intensively using machinery.
In addition, water is being released through the dam’s emergency spillway to reduce the stored water level by 10 feet from the elevation of 315 feet. As of the evening of 14 October, the water level fell to 308.90 feet, a reduction of about 6.1 feet. — 100/KTZH
