UNDER the supervision of the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee, efforts to combat the illicit trade are continued effectively by the law.

On 3 and 4 January, the combined on-duty teams confiscated industrial materials and consumer goods worth K143.51 million without official documents from six contains at the Asia World Port Terminal container checkpoint, 3.968 tonnes of illegal charcoal valued at K93,000 in Sinbaungwe Township, 4.395 tonnes of illegal timbers valued at K464,571 in Ngaputaw and Pathein Townships and an unregistered Honda CBR 150 (estimated value of K5 million) in Hinthada Township. The action was conducted under the Forest Law, the Export-Import Law, and Customs procedures.

Similarly, on 5 and 6 January, the on-duty teams seized 2.008 tonnes of illegal timbers worth K732,920 in Taikkyi Township, a Toyota Noah (estimated value of K18 million) carrying 0.617 tonne of illegal teak valued at K543,136 near Htaukkyant junction on the Bago-Yangon road in Mingaladon Township, an unregistered Canter truck (estimated value of K7 million) in Ottwin Township and 1.883 tonnes of illegal teak, 0.77 tonne of illegal hardwood and 5,050 pieces of bamboo poles valued at about K15 million in Bago and Toungoo districts. The action was taken under the Forest Law and the Export-Import Law.

The Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee reported 12 arrests from 3 to 6 January, confiscating illegal goods worth approximately K190 million.
