MORE than 1,000 people joined the first day of the trekking season reopened at Mount Taungwine in Mon State’s Mawlamyine where visitors can enjoy viewing a sea of clouds while going on a pilgrimage tour, according to Sasana Nwe Foundation.
The trekking season, which is designed in December, January and February for three months, reopened on 1 December morning and attracted many visitors.
Except for officials and monastery vehicles, other private cars, motorcycles and bicycles are prohibited from climbing the mountain from 5 am to 9 am for the safety of travellers on Saturday and Sunday during the trekking season. Cars and motorcycles are allowed to park at free parking lots from 4:30am to 9 am and smoking and littering are prohibited along the journey, it warned.
Among visitors, there are residents and people nearby as well as pilgrims from other regions and states and the visitor arrival is usually large on weekends, public holidays and on the days of well-known festivals, according to residents.
