The Myanmar Police Force reported the seizure of 8.6 kilogrammes of heroin, valued at K430 million, in Kalay, Sagaing Region.
Acting on a tip-off, a squad consisting of police from Anti-narcotic Division searched a Toyota Mark II driven by Rodein Lyanna, accompanied by Maung Maung Naing Win (aka) Maung Naing, on No 9 Road in Taungzalat Ward, Kalay Township, at 6:30 pm on 23 October. This search led to the discovery of two kilogrammes of heroin concealed in 200 soap cases.
A further investigation led to the arrest of Myo Ko Oo and Ma Sang Chin Til, along with 6.6 more kilogrammes of heroin and another Mark II vehicle, at Bayintnaung Junction in the same ward at 8:30 pm that evening. The suspects admitted that the drugs had been trafficked under the direction of Phoe Kyaw (aka) Kyaw Kyaw (aka) Maw Thin and his wife, Ma Khin Moe Nwe (aka) Moe Nwe, from Mandalay Region.
Legal proceedings have been initiated against the suspects, and investigations are continuing to apprehend other individuals involved. Steps are also being taken to confiscate assets and financial gains from drug trafficking under the Anti-Money Laundering Law.
