UNDER the supervision of the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee, efforts to combat the illicit trade are being conducted effectively in accordance with the law.
On 20 September, teams managed by the Magway Region Illegal Trade Eradication Task Force carried out inspections, resulting in the seizure of five unregistered motorbikes worth approximately K1.53 million in the Magway, Minbu, and Thayet districts, as well as 0.516 tonne of illegal timber in Natmauk Township, valued at around K92,437. The action was taken under the Import-Export Law and Forest Law.
On the same day, combined teams under the Customs Department inspected and seized two industrial goods valued at K62.085 million at Myanma Industrial Port and five industrial goods worth approximately K1.457 billion at the Asia World checkpoint. Additionally, on 22 September, they confiscated one type of foodstuff and four types of consumer goods valued at K12.7 million at Yangon International Airport, following proper Customs procedures.
On 22 September, teams under the Bago Region Illegal Trade Eradication Task Force seized two commercial goods, one consumer good, and one foodstuff valued at approximately K4.06 million, along with a Higer bus worth K40 million at the Nyaunkhashay x-ray machine checkpoint. On 23 September, they confiscated 13.601 tonnes of illegal teak and 0.106 tonne of hardwood valued at approximately K12.041 million in Bago District under the Forest Law.
On 23 September, teams managed by the Sagaing Region Illegal Trade Eradication Task Force conducted inspections. They seized one unregistered Mitsubishi Pajero worth around K10 million and one unregistered Canter truck valued at K8 million at the Yadanabon Bridge checkpoint in Sagaing. The action was taken under the Import-Export Law.
The Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee reported that from 20, 22 and 23 September, 23 arrests were made, resulting in the seizure of illegal goods valued at approximately K1,607 million.
