Union Minister for Health Dr Thet Khaing Win said that the public need not worry as surveillance of respiratory diseases caused by the HMPV virus is being stepped up.
The Union minister made the remarks at a coordination meeting on the prevention and control of respiratory diseases common in the cold season held at the meeting room of the Ministry of Health, the afternoon of 7 January.
The Ministry of Health continues to monitor international and regional disease outbreak information, statements and recommendations from the World Health Organization.
According to research conducted in Myanmar in 2023 and 2024, cases of HMPV infection were found among outpatients, suggesting that the body’s immune system has been developed to the virus, said Dr Thet Khaing Win.
Some neighbouuring countries are currently experiencing respiratory infections caused by HMPV, so Myanmar citizens must take the same precautions as they do for seasonal flu and COVID-19. The Ministry of Health has advised people to avoid crowded places and to wear masks if they need to go there.
