ALL national race groups in Myanmar had lived under own monarchy for thousands of years, preserving their unique cultures and customs. However, due to the negative impact of colonialism, Myanmar, endowed with abundant natural resources, was aggressively occupied by the British colonialists after three wars, losing its independence and sovereignty in 1886.

National race people sacrificed their lives, blood, and sweat over many years to regain the nation’s independence, which had been lost in an instant. These internal conflicts were fuelled by a lack of national unity, a weakness exacerbated by the divisive administrative mechanisms imposed by colonial rulers.

Our Three Main National Causes — preserving the integrity of the Union, maintaining national solidarity, and perpetuating sovereignty — are central to the continued existence of independence and sovereignty. These principles represent an ethic that all ethnic groups should embrace. Therefore, all ethnic groups must diligently adhere to these causes in shaping a Union based on genuine, disciplined democratic and federal systems, in order to strengthen national unity.

Although we have struggled for many years to achieve independence, only a brief moment is required to lose that independence. The ongoing ethnic conflicts and armed confrontations are pushing the nation down the path to losing its freedom. Now is the time to stop the armed conflicts and come together to the peace table for dialogue and negotiation. The people who have suffered from the unrest are waiting for peace, and it is essential for all armed groups to agree on this.

Due to the lack of peace, transport has become difficult, and the people are unable to travel from one place to another. As a result, there are fatalities that should not have happened. Children are unable to attend school, causing them to lose educational opportunities, which will result in a lost generation without proper education. While neighbouring countries are progressing, Myanmar is suffering from armed conflict, and the people continue to endure hardship.

Therefore, all stakeholders should not act solely based on their own desires, but rather thoughtfully and decisively consider what is right and appropriate for the nation and the people. They must urgently cooperate to ensure the stability and peace of the country. In order to achieve a win-win situation for all, there should be meaningful and directed discussions. On the occasion of the 77th anniversary Independence Day, it is necessary to promote stability and peace, for the nation and its people.
