A recent claim on the Facebook page of the Khit Thit media alleging that DaikU Central Prison guards tortured a prisoner, Ko Htet Lin Oo, who suffers from asthma, has been debunked as false. Authorities clarified that there are no political prisoners at DaikU Central Prison. Instead, only inmates convicted of violating existing laws are held there. The incident in question involved a fight on 19 October between inmates Htet Lin Oo (also known as O One) and Soe Thu Aung. During the altercation, Htet Lin Oo’s associate, Kyaw Zin Thet, also assaulted Soe Thu Aung.
Following an investigation by the prison’s disciplinary board, all three inmates were found guilty of breaching prison regulations. As a result, they were shackled, placed in solitary confinement, and stripped of their privileges. Htet Lin Oo was released from solitary confinement on 4 November but was later returned on 10 November after attempting to incite conflict among inmates.
Claims that the warden ordered Htet Lin Oo to be shackled and forced to run around the dormitories were categorically denied. Prison authorities stated that all actions taken against him were in strict accordance with the 1894 Prison Act and under the supervision of relevant officials.
The allegations made by Khit Thit media have been dismissed as baseless and misleading, intended to deceive the public.
