SKILLED engineers and workers from the Ministry of Electricity and Energy have been carrying out repairs to towers along the 230-kV Toungoo-Thayagon power transmission line, which has been repeatedly damaged by explosions.

The repair work is being conducted with the cooperation of security personnel and local residents. However, at around 10:58 am yesterday, attackers launched FPV drone strikes against the repair site, according to the Ministry of Electricity and Energy. The 230-kV Toungoo-Thayagon power transmission line was constructed to transmit electricity generated by hydropower plants in upper Myanmar to consumers in lower Myanmar, including Yangon Region.

The towers along the transmission line sustained damage at multiple locations following repeated attacks on 27 July and 28 December 2023, and 3 and 23 January 2024. While repair work was underway on the damaged towers, attackers carried out the latest FPV drone strikes, which damaged equipment and machinery at the site. Despite various challenges, efforts will continue to repair the transmission line. Once the repairs are completed, the line will be able to transmit approximately 200 additional megawatts of electricity, according to reports.
