ON Abhidhamma Day, which falls on the full moon day of Thadingyut, devotees made offerings dedicated to the Lord Buddha at the pagodas in Nay Pyi Taw Council Area.

Pagodas and stupas in Nay Pyi Taw such as Maravijaya Buddha Image, Nayyaungpya Inn Pagoda, Yanaungmyin Pagoda, Pyinmana Phayakoesu, Sutaungya Sutaungpyae Pagoda, Sattasattaha Mahabodhi and the four key sites of Buddha (Buddha’s birth, enlightenment, preaching and death) were thronged with pilgrims doing good deeds.

In the evening, pilgrims gathered at the Maravijaya Buddha Park to pay homage to the Buddha image and other religious structures, recite Buddhist scriptures, light oil lamps and release small hot-air balloons as part of the Thadingyut celebrations.

Similarly, shopping centres, including Ocean Super Centre, Junction Centre and Nay Pyi Taw Wholesale, and recreational sites such as Mingala Lake, Mingala Shan Lake and Nay Pyi Taw Water Fountain Garden, also attracted crowds amid colourful LED decorations.

Across townships, wards and villages, residents lit oil lamps at pagodas and homes, released small hot-air balloons and paid respects to parents, elders and teachers.

The Nay Pyi Taw Development Committee will provide free transport from Bawga Thiri Bus Terminal in Pyinmana to the Maravijaya Buddha Image on 27- 28 October to facilitate visits by pilgrims during the Thadingyut holidays. The service will be provided by the Tawwin bus line and a Yazamin electric vehicle. — Aye Aye Thant/KTZH
