A high-level dialogue which highlighted the opening of the Myanmar tourism promotion office (Kunming) was held from 13 to 17 October in Kunming, Yunnan Province, the People’s Republic of China.
During the rounds of dialogue, Permanent Secretary U Maung Maung Kyaw of the Ministry of Culture, Hotels and Tourism said the friendship between Myanmar and China and the bilateral cooperation will be strengthened through the tourism sector, and the tourism office opened in Kunming will be a major passage which connects the government with the private sector.
For Chinese visitors to visit Myanmar with ease, the permit for visa on arrival has already been extended until 29 August 2027, he said.
During his visit, a memorandum of understanding was signed on 16 October between China-based companies and travel companies from Myanmar for the opening of the Myanmar tourism office in Kunming, aiming to offer a systematic tour arrangement for Chinese visitors. The permanent secretary and his delegation also visited cultural and tourism-related infrastructures and model tourist destinations in Yunnan Province and Dali.
When the Myanmar tourism office opens in Kunming, Myanmar’s tourism industry can have direct access to the Chinese tourism market, and it can also support a safe re-arrival of tourists and help the local hospitality sector recover; in addition, it will bring many benefits for employment opportunities for the people and help improve foreign earnings. — TWA/ZS
