THE closing ceremony of the 20th Asian Games, held from 19 September to 4 October took place at Mizuho Park Athletics Stadium (Paloma Mizuho Stadium) in Nagoya City, Japan, at 6 pm yesterday.
Team managers, coaches and athletes from the participating Asian countries, including Myanmar, attended the closing ceremony.
According to the programme, team managers, coaches and athletes from the participating countries marched together, performed traditional Japanese dances and other cultural performances, and sang songs. They also greeted the participating teams before the Asian Games flag and torch were handed over to Qatar, which will host the Games in 2030.
At the 18th Asian Games in Indonesia in 2018, Myanmar won one bronze medal each in pole vault and Wushu. At the 19th Asian Games in China in 2023, Myanmar won one gold medal in pole vault and two bronze medals in rowing.
A total of 43 sports were included in the 20th Asian Games in Japan in 2026. Myanmar competed in five sports – Teqball, esports, Sepak Takraw, gymnastics and women’s football — and won two gold, one silver and two bronze medals. Myanmar won one gold medal in esports, one gold and one silver medal in Teqball, and one bronze medal each in Teqball and pole vault. Myanmar finished 24th in the overall medal standings among the 45 participating countries, achieving a better medal haul than at the previous Asian Games and bringing pride to the nation.
