A total of 1,309.339 metric tonnes of rice donated by the Republic of Korea and the People’s Republic of China under the APTERR Tier 3 Programme 2025 was handed over to the Ayeyawady Region government through the Department of Agriculture yesterday at Meeting Hall 1 of the regional government to support the flood-affected people in the region.
Ayeyawady Region Chief Minister U Aye Kyaw expressed gratitude to APTERR officials and representatives of China for their assistance to flood victims.
APTERR Secretariat General Manager Dr Choomjet Karnjanakesorn and First Secretary of the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar Mr Wang Xianzhong explained the donation before handing over the rice to the chief minister, who presented certificates of appreciation and local gifts in return.
APTERR is a regional programme involving the 10 ASEAN member states and the Plus Three countries to provide emergency rice assistance to areas affected by natural disasters and other emergencies.
Similarly, the Myanmar Music Association (Central) and regional, state and township music associations donated K120 million and medicines, clothing and consumer goods worth about K100 million for flood relief efforts in Laymyethna Township, Hinthada District. The Myanmar Highway Freight Transport Services Association (MHFTSA) also donated K15 million.
Moreover, donations were made by officers and families of Defence Services Academy Intake 22, Golden Land Group, Royal Sky Co Ltd, Dagon Golf City staff families, U Maung Maung Kyaw (CEO, Dagon Golf Club), Ko Baw Baw family and U Bo Bo Htet.
The chief minister also inspected the clearing of garbage and sediment from drainage channels and waterways in Pathein as part of preventive measures to improve water flow and reduce the risk of flooding in Ayeyawady Region.
