A 23-year-old woman from Dagon Myothit (East) Township, Yangon Region, whose left index finger was severed in an accident involving a cloth-cutting machine at a garment factory on 11 August, underwent successful replantation surgery at Yangon General Hospital.
She arrived at the hospital’s Emergency Department at 7:15 pm and received initial treatment from the orthopaedic specialist and medical staff. Replantation surgery began at 8:30 pm in the emergency operating theatre and was completed at 1 am on 12 August.
The surgery was carried out through the joint efforts of hand surgeons, anesthesiologists, senior nurses and junior nurses, and laboratory, radiology and other skilled staff. The replanted finger recovered well and regained normal movement. The patient was discharged on 9 September and continues to undergo the necessary rehabilitation exercises.
Yangon General Hospital has performed replantation surgeries on seven patients since 2022, including replantation surgeries for the forearm, arm, thumb, palm and index finger. — MNA/KTZH
