UNION Minister for Transport U Mya Tun Oo attended the Global Sustainable Transport Forum 2026, held in Beijing, China, from 22 to 23 September, at the invitation of Mr Liu Wei, Minister of Transport of China.
The forum, hosted by China, focused on global sustainable transport development and cooperation, while promoting the Global Development Initiative (GDI), Global Governance Initiative (GGI), the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the UN Decade of Sustainable Transport 2026-2035.
The forum was attended by about 40 transport ministers and senior officials from various countries. On the first day, the Union minister delivered a speech at the Plenary Session under the theme “Sustainable Transport: Easier Movement of People and Smoother Flow of Goods”.
At the Ministers’ Forum, participants discussed implementing the GDI and GGI to deepen global cooperation in sustainable transport and adopted the “Framework for Global Sustainable Transport Development and Cooperation”.
On the second day of the forum, the different topics were discussed in respective Thematic Sessions, and the Union minister and relevant officials joined them.
During the visit, on 23 September, the Union minister also held a separate meeting with the Chinese Minister of Transport to discuss China-supported transport projects in Myanmar and ways to further enhance bilateral cooperation in the transport sector.
Senior officials from Myanmar’s Department of Transport Planning also met with officials from China’s Ministry of Transport to discuss practical steps for implementing the Myanmar-China Cross-Border Transport Facilitation Agreement (CBTA).
The Myanmar delegation arrived in Yangon on the evening of 24 September. — MNA/KTZH
