Vice-President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar Nan Ni Ni Aye, accompanied by Union Minister U Than Maung, Yangon Region ministers and officials, inspected the Union National Races Village (Yangon) in Thakayta Township yesterday morning.Upon arrival, the Vice-President enjoyed traditional songs and performances, including the traditional Kayin ‘Don’ dance, presented by Kayin ethnic people and the Kayin Literature and Culture Association. She then presented flower bouquets and cash prizes to the performers.
At the meeting hall, the Vice-President said that she visited there to observe the preservation and presentation of the traditional cultures of ethnic nationalities and to provide support for their development. She highlighted that bringing together the cultural heritage and traditions of different ethnic groups in one place will help younger generations learn about and preserve their cultural heritage, while also promoting mutual understanding, friendship and the spirit of the Union.
She also emphasized the Union National Races Village’s potential to support education and research, promote local products and traditional handicrafts, create employment opportunities, and contribute to tourism and regional economic development. She called for continued upgrading of the site to ensure its long-term sustainability and international standards.
Union Minister U Than Maung briefed the village’s objectives, organizational structure, location, infrastructure, annual budget allocations, development plans and upgrading projects.The Vice-President then inspected various sites within the village, including the Viewing Tower, traditional ethnic houses, traditional food stalls and shops, landmark sites, jetty, MV-705 vessel, mangrove garden and Union Hall.
The Union National Races Village (Yangon) was opened on 28 December 2002 to showcase the diverse cultural traditions of Myanmar’s ethnic nationalities in one place, strengthening the Union spirit and promoting national unity.
