RUSSIAN Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin on Tuesday highlighted the importance of the space industry to Russia’s economy. “Crewed pro – grammes are currently being actively updated, including the creation of a new transport spacecraft and the Russian Orbital Station, which will eventually replace the International Space Station,” Mishustin said during a meeting with Dmitry Bakanov, head of Roscosmos, Russia’s space agency.
He said the space industry serves as a driver for the development of other key sectors of the economy. Mishustin added that satellites monitoring weather and ice conditions along the Northern Sea Route are already in operation, helping support year-round navigation.
He also said Russia prioritizes cooperation with private companies in space exploration. Bakanov said Russia has launched nearly 60 spacecraft into orbit this year, including telecommunications, navigation and Earth remote sensing satellites, with the combined constellation reaching nearly 400 spacecraft and satellites.
