MYANMAR’S teqball team won one gold, one silver and one bronze medals at the XX Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, with Khin Hnin Wai securing Myanmar’s first gold medal at the Games.
Competing at Nagoya City Higashi Sports Centre from 17 to 20 September, Khin Hnin Wai went unbeaten in the Women’s Singles event. She won all three group matches before beating a Lebanese player in the semifinal.
In the final, she lost the first set 10-12 to Indonesia’s Sumaya but fought back to win the second set 12-8. She then secured the title by winning the third set 12-9.
In the Men’s Singles bronze-medal match, Saw Friday beat the Philippines’ Prince Agustin in straight sets to claim the bronze medal.
In the Women’s Doubles final, Su Mon Aung and Phyu Phyu Than lost 6-12, 3-12 to Thailand’s Suphawadi Wongkham and Jutatip Kuntatong to take the silver medal.
Myanmar’s teqball team therefore finished the XX Asian Games with one gold, one silver and one bronze medals.
Meanwhile, Myanmar’s women’s football team will face Bangladesh at Yanmar Stadium Nagai at 1:30 pm on 21 September in their third group-stage match.— MNA/KZL
