A clean water initiative supported by uab Bank and ASEAN CARE partners Humanity Matters and Capital Diamond Star Group (CDSG) has been introduced in Sayaykwin Village, Laymyethna Township, to help communities affected by recent flooding regain access to safe drinking water.
Flooding in Laymyethna Township affected more than 14,000 people, disrupting daily life and creating challenges in accessing essential needs, including safe drinking water and maintaining proper hygiene during the recovery period. In Sayaykwin Village, a Lotus Saver water purification system is being installed to provide purified drinking water for residents and people from neighbouring villages.
The project is making use of an existing local water source made available by a farmer in the area. The arrangement allows an available community resource to be developed into a more reliable source of drinking water through the purification system.
The initiative also includes reusable water containers and guidance on their proper use and maintenance. The measures are intended to support safer storage and transport of drinking water while reducing dependence on single-use plastic bottles.
The initiative reflects a collaborative response to the needs of flood-affected communities, with uab Bank and Humanity Matters working alongside local communities to establish a practical water resource that can continue to serve the community as recovery progresses.
Rather than focusing solely on immediate relief, the project is designed to provide a water solution that remains useful beyond the initial emergency response. The system is expected to serve residents of Sayaykwin Village as well as people from neighbouring communities.
As Laymyethna communities continue to rebuild their homes, livelihoods and daily routines following the floods, access to safe drinking water remains an important part of the recovery process.
