Myanmar Vice-President U Nyo Saw, who is currently in Nanning, China, attended and delivered an opening speech at the opening ceremony of the 23rd China-ASEAN Expo and the 23rd China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit at the Nanning International Convention and Exhibition Centre at 10 am local time yesterday.
The Vice-President was accompanied by Union Minister U Tun Ohn and members of the Myanmar delegation.
At the ceremony, the Vice-President, a Vice-Premier of the People’s Republic of China, and deputy prime ministers and government leaders from ASEAN member states delivered opening remarks and officially opened the 23rd China-ASEAN Expo and the 23rd China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit.
In his speech, Vice-President U Nyo Saw said the China-ASEAN Expo was not only a platform for promoting trade and investment between China and ASEAN member states, but also an important avenue for building trust, exploring business opportunities, exchanging technology and experience, and strengthening friendship among peoples.
Regarding trade and investment, he said the new areas covered by the ASEAN-China Free Trade Area (ACFTA) 3.0, including the digital economy, green economy, supply chains, competition and consumer protection, would further open up investment and trade opportunities and help promote free, fair, rules-based and mutually beneficial trade.
He also said that since assuming State responsibilities, President U Min Aung Hlaing had visited eight countries, including China and four ASEAN member states, helping further strengthen existing friendship and mutual understanding and expand practical cooperation for mutual benefit.
During the President’s state visit to China in June 2026, a joint statement between Myanmar and China was issued following his meeting with Chinese President Mr Xi Jinping. The statement reaffirmed the two countries’ agreement to continue promoting cooperation based on equality, mutual respect, consultation and mutual benefit. The two sides also agreed to promote economic cooperation in areas including the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor, energy, electricity, the digital economy, artificial intelligence, agriculture, healthcare, education and human resources.
Myanmar would continue to strengthen its Pauk-Phaw relations with China and promote ASEAN-China cooperation based on ASEAN centrality, equality and mutual benefit, the Vice-President said.
In the afternoon, Vice-President U Nyo Saw attended and delivered a speech at the China-ASEAN Business Leaders Forum, held as part of the 23rd China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit, together with leaders from ASEAN member states and invited countries.
He later attended the opening ceremony of the “City of Charm” pavilion featuring Bago, Myanmar, at the Nanning International Convention and Exhibition Centre. He toured and viewed Myanmar’s exhibition booths as well as those of ASEAN member states.
Myanmar is participating in the 23rd China-ASEAN Expo with 81 booths showcasing agricultural products, handicrafts and gems. More than 1,000 booths from China and ASEAN member states are displaying products from their respective countries at the expo, according to reports. — MNA/ST
