ACCORDING to the Myanmar Gazette published on 28 August, a total of 19 officers from the Ministry of Defence, comprising six lieutenant-colonels, nine majors, and four captains, have been transferred to the Myanmar Space Agency (MSA).
This appointment was approved by the Union Government Meeting 3/2026 held on 26 May. Out of the six lieutenant-colonels, three were appointed as deputy directors-general, while the remaining three were appointed as directors. Furthermore, out of the nine majors, eight were appointed as deputy directors, and the remaining one major and four captains were appointed as assistant directors, respectively.
The MSA, led by Chief Executive Officer Dr Soe Myint Maung, was established on 1 June 2025, during the tenure of the State Administration Council Government. The agency aims to support areas such as peaceful space exploration, international cooperation, national security, environmental and natural resource conservation, and disaster management, as well as to cultivate young professionals.
Additionally, the MSA independently manages its mandates and responsibilities, such as representing Myanmar in international forums including the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS), drafting and submitting national space policies and legal procedures, and supervising the launch and control of satellites. — TWA/ZN
