A Myanmar delegation comprising Dr Pwint San, Chairman of the International Relations Committee of the Pyithu Hluttaw; U Chit Swe, Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee of the Amyotha Hluttaw; representatives from the Pyithu Hluttaw and Amyotha Hluttaw; Tatmadaw representatives; and support staff is participating in a capacity development programme at the Indian Parliament from 1 to 8 September.
During the visit, the Myanmar Hluttaw representatives discussed the role of Parliament in Indian politics and administration, including legislation, committee systems, financial committees, constituency governance, communication with institutions such as state legislatures, the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS), and parliamentary rights.
The delegation also met Shri Om Birla, Speaker of the Lok Sabha, the lower house of India’s Parliament, at Parliament House. They visited parliamentary buildings, libraries and art museums. Such study tours will further enhance the capabilities of Hluttaw representatives and contribute to the development of Hluttaw activities. — MNA/MKKS
