THE Nyaungdonkyun embankment, along the Toe River, a tributary of the Ayeyawady River, has been affected by riverbank erosion since the morning of 25 August. The affected section is between 11/6 and 11/7 mileposts of the Nyaungdonkyun embankment near Ganchaung Village, Nyaungdon Township, Ayeyawady Region.

To temporarily protect the embankment from further erosion, Tatmadaw personnel, members of the Myanmar Police Force, social organizations and residents, with the assistance of machinery, are placing sandbags at the base of the embankment slope, constructing a temporary embankment between 11/5 and 11/6 mileposts and installing porcupine structures for riverbank protection.

Officials from the Yangon Command and relevant departments visited the site and coordinated the necessary measures. — MNA/ MKKS
