TORRENTIAL rains on 30 and 31 August caused the Taninthayi River in Taninthayi Township, Myeik District, Taninthayi Region, to rise to 25 feet and seven inches, exceeding the township’s danger level.
This level exceeds the township’s warning mark of 17 feet by eight feet and seven inches and surpasses the established danger level of 24 feet by one foot seven inches. To accommodate residents from low-lying areas who have evacuated to safety, six temporary relief camps have been opened to provide emergency assistance.
Under the guidance of the Union government, Tatmadaw and police personnel, firefighters, philanthropic organizations, volunteer groups and residents are jointly providing emergency relief. They are distributing food, providing emergency medical care and assisting affected families at the temporary shelters.
Tatmadaw officers from the Taninthayi Station observed the ongoing relief operations and coordinated the necessary assistance on-site. — MNA/TH
