A Tokyo-based real estate developer will offer new hires joining in April next year a monthly salary of 1 million yen ($6,259), in a bid to recruit talent with expertise in entrepreneurship and artificial intelligence.
The amount offered by Kasumigaseki Capital Co would be nearly four times the national average and among the highest starting salaries offered by a domestic company.
In Japan, the average starting salary for new university graduates was 262,300 yen in June 2025, up 16 per cent from the 2020 level. Some 1,300 people have applied for positions at Kasumigaseki Capital starting in spring 2027, with around 10 receiving job offers. Applicants were asked to make a pitch on what they consider themselves best at.
The company aims to introduce a recruitment system for new graduates under which starting salaries would be determined based on individual ability and market value. Its employees currently earn an average annual salary of around 17 million yen.
