A total of 140 PDFs, comprising 131 men and nine women, have re-entered the legal fold with various arms and ammunition and related equipment, expressing their acceptance of the peace process being pursued by the State and Tatmadaw.
The handover ceremonies took place at Zeyathiri Hall of the North-West Command Headquarters with the attendance of Sagaing Region Chief Minister U Ko Lay, Commander Maj-Gen Kyaw Thura and relevant officials, and at Aung San Hall in Kalay.
At the ceremony in Sagaing, 95 returnees – 89 men and six women from Sagaing – handed over one pistol, one MA-1 rifle, two MA-3 rifles, one MA-11 rifle, one KA rifle, one homemade gun, seven magazines and 10 hand grenades. They were provided with reward money totalling K39.75 million and food supplies before being formally handed over to their parents and guardians after signing pledges.
Meanwhile, 45 returnees – 42 men and three women – at the ceremony in Kalay handed over 21 firearms, 30 magazines, 679 rounds of ammunition, six hand grenades and three walkie-talkies. They received reward money totalling K106.65 million and food supplies before being handed over to their parents and guardians.
In total, the 140 returnees handed over 27 various firearms and 16 hand grenades, together with ammunition and related equipment yesterday.
Those who intend to do so are urged to promptly contact and report to the nearest district or township administrative bodies, military units, or police stations, where they will be welcomed back and provided with necessary assistance.
