The 2026 Region and State Sepak Takraw Championships, jointly organized by the Department of Sports and Physical Education under the Ministry of Sports and the Myanmar Sepak Takraw Federation, were launched yesterday at Gymnasium A, Wunna Theikdhi Sports Complex in Nay Pyi Taw.

The championships, featuring men’s and women’s events, will be held from 24 August to 2 September. A total of 331 athletes from 15 men’s teams and 13 women’s teams are taking part.

Union Minister for Sports U Ye Myint Tun, who is also chairperson of the Myanmar Olympic Committee, delivered an opening speech at the opening ceremony and officially opened the championships.

The participating athletes then recited the four sports oaths. The Union minister, together with deputy ministers, greeted the participating teams and presented K300,000 in recognition to the band of the No 6 Basic Education High School of Zabuthiri Township for supporting the opening ceremony.

Yesterday, in the men’s double regu event, Bago Region faced Yangon Region, while Mandalay Region competed against Shan State in the women’s double regu event. Sports lovers can enjoy the matches free of charge. — MNA/KTZH
