A ceremony to convey the Inlay PhaungdawU Buddha images to 21 venues in Nyaungshwe Township, Shan State (South), will be held from 12 to 29 October, according to Inntha Ethnic Affairs Minister Daw Tin Tin Yi.
The ceremony, one of the region’s major Buddhist festivals, will begin at PhaungdawU Monastery, with the images being conveyed to significant locations, including Kyaypawkhon Monastery in Intein, where they will stay overnight for public obeisance.
The festival will feature traditional Inntha leg-rowing boat races and cultural performances along the route. Pilgrims and travellers from across the country are expected to attend the annual festival. — ASH/MKKS
