A Participatory Workshop on Oil Seeds Production and Value Chain Development for farmers was held on 9 November at the Nawarat meeting hall of the Agriculture Department in Nay Pyi Taw, jointly organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation (MoALI), the Department of Agricultural Research and Myanmar Edible Oil Dealers Association.
MoALI Union Minister U Min Naung received contributions from U San Lin, chair of the Myanmar Edible Oil Dealers Association, with K70 million towards oil crop farmers and K50 million for oil crop research and development activities. The Union minister returned a certificate of appreciation to the chair of the Myanmar Edible Oil Dealers Association.
The researchers presented Myanmar’s oil crop production situation, analysis of the profit of peanut, sesame, sunflower, soya bean and other oil crops and growers’ interest, quality criteria of oil crops, export standards and norms, challenges in planting and production, research on post-harvest time and peanut and soybean production at the workshop.
A representative of GGPG Company also presented a research paper highlighting degumming, neutralization to clear free fatty acid, bleaching, deodorization and dewaxing with a view to producing refined edible oil of high quality.
Afterwards, four roundtable discussions were held, and the results were forwarded. Deputy Minister Dr Tin Htut coordinated them and handed over certificates of appreciation.
