A total of 777 individuals involved in illegal online scam and gambling operations were arrested along with a large quantity of equipment during a security operation in Myawady Township, Kayin State, yesterday.

Various equipment used in the operations, including 85 computers, 183 mobile phones and one Starlink device, was also seized. The seized equipment was burned and destroyed on 12 August to prevent it from being reused.

Under the government’s guidance, relevant departmental teams systematically demolished the illegally constructed buildings at the site of the arrests to prevent their reuse. On 12 August, two two-storey residential buildings were demolished; on 23 August, one single-storey residential building; on 14 August, one single-storey residential building; on 15 August, one single-storey residential building; on 16 August, one single-storey residential building; and yesterday, one single-storey and one three-storey residential buildings were demolished and destroyed. All eight buildings have now been systematically demolished and destroyed.

Tatmadaw columns seized further buildings used for online scam and gambling activities in the same afternoon at a location about 4,000 metres southeast of the above-mentioned site. The seized structures included one single-storey, CI sheets used building measuring 100 feet long and 40 feet wide, one measuring 80 feet by 20 feet, two measuring 50 feet by 40 feet, one measuring 50 feet by 20 feet, one measuring 90 feet by 20 feet, and one 30-foot-by20-foot zinc-roofed building with a steel structure and two large water tanks.

During area security operations, Tatmadaw columns engaged in seven clashes with terrorists who were allegedly protecting online scam and gambling operators in exchange for payment. Some bodies, various weapons, ammunition and related equipment were seized from the terrorist insurgents, while some military personnel sustained injuries. — MNA/KTZH
