A delegation led by Tokyo-based Ambassador of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to Myanmar Mr Daba Debele Hunde, who had completed his tour of duty, paid a courtesy call on President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar U Min Aung Hlaing at the Presidential Palace Reception Hall in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday morning.

They cordially discussed that Myanmar has successfully held a free and fair multiparty democratic general election, and the government elected by the people is firmly moving forward on the path of democracy while carrying out its responsibilities for the State. Likewise, in Ethiopia, an election was successfully held in May, and the new government has assumed its responsibilities in governing the country.

They also frankly exchanged views on further enhancement of diplomatic relations between Myanmar and Ethiopia, plans to promote exchange of goodwill visits between senior officers of both countries, exchange of experiences on the peace process between the two nations to cease internal conflicts, sending peace negotiation bodies to conduct observation of the process, and promotion of inter-parliamentary relations and bilateral relations.

Their discussions focused on the disruption of stability and peace in border areas causing obstacles to the country’s image, nation-building efforts, and the implementation of national development activities, the need to address border problems in the best ways, and systematic deportation of foreign nationals who illegally enter the country through border regions to the relevant countries.

They also underscored the importance of promoting cooperation in multiple sectors, including agriculture, trade and tourism, to strengthen people-to-people exchanges and further enhance the longstanding friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

The President of Myanmar and the Ethiopian Ambassador exchanged gifts and had documentary photos taken together with the attendees.

Also present at the meeting were Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Tin Maung Swe and officials. The Tokyo-based Ethiopian Ambassador was accompanied by his spouse Mrs Worknesh Biru, a member of the House of Peoples’ Representatives and former State Minister of Culture and Sports, and embassy officials. — MNA/TTA
