THE Department of Fisheries under the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation has announced that action will be taken against inshore fishing vessels that use adverse weather conditions as an excuse to catch fish and shrimp in prohibited coastal areas.
Designated weather shelters have been established for citizen-owned offshore and inshore fishing vessels, allowing fishing boats and seafarers to seek safe refuge during severe monsoon weather conditions.
The department has also issued instructions allowing citizen-owned offshore and inshore fishing vessels operating in Myanmar’s waters to seek refuge from strong winds and waves during bad weather at designated locations in Rakhine State, Ayeyawady Region and Taninthayi Region.
