Pyithu Hluttaw Speaker U Khin Yi received Pakistani Ambassador to Myanmar Mr Tariq Karim and his delegation at the Pyithu Hluttaw building yesterday afternoon.

The Pyithu Hluttaw Speaker highlighted the long-standing diplomatic relations between Myanmar and Pakistan, which were established on 1 August 1947, and called for stronger cooperation in areas including pharmaceuticals, manufacturing, culture, women’s affairs and tourism.

He also expressed interest in forming a Parliamentary Friendship Associations between the two countries’ legislatures to further enhance cooperation in legislative affairs, committee relations, and exchanges among women and youth parliamentarians.

Ambassador Mr Tariq Karim welcomed the proposal, saying that strengthening parliamentary ties alongside government relations would help expand cooperation between the two countries. He also invited Myanmar people to visit Taxila, a region known for its Buddhist cultural heritage, and pledged support for closer people-to-people and parliamentary relations.
