AN Omani diplomatic delegation arrived in the Iranian capital Tehran on Friday for talks on the administration of the Strait of Hormuz, Iran’s official news agency IRNA reported. The report said the visit is within the framework of the consultations between the two countries to establish appropriate mechanisms for managing maritime traffic in the strategic waterway.
According to IRNA, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and his Omani counterpart Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi held a phone call on Friday, exchanging views on regional developments as well as the security of navigation and commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf. Both sides highlighted the importance of maintaining shipping safety, and discussed ways and regional cooperation to prevent escalation and ensure peace, stability, and security in the West Asia region, IRNA reported.
The US military has launched multiple waves of strikes against Iran’s southern provinces over the past two weeks, claiming the attacks are aimed at “degrading Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping”. Iran has responded with waves of missile and drone attacks targeting US military bases and facilities in the region.
