THE Myanmar Agricultural Development Bank (MADB), under the Ministry of Planning and Finance, has announced that agricultural loans for the 2026-2027 financial year are being disbursed using both cash and electronic money (e-money). Under this scheme, a system has been implemented in which 50 per cent can be withdrawn in cash through local village agents, and the remaining 50 per cent is disbursed via KBZPay.
This new system is initially being rolled out as a pilot project in the Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory, Mandalay Region, Mon State, Yangon Region, and Ayeyawady Region. To bridge the gap between agricultural operations and modern technology for this digital loan system, MADB has partnered with KBZ Bank. Currently, staff from KBZ Bank and KBZPay are conducting field visits to provide digital literacy training and educational workshops for farmers and local agents. For this initiative, services will be provided through 411 KBZ branches and 56 KBZPay centres nationwide.
In addition, farmers can withdraw cash from village-level agents or use e-money directly to purchase fertilizers and other agricultural inputs. During the current pilot phase, over 80,000 farmers are receiving loans allocated at K300,000 per acre, with a maximum of K3 million.
