APPROXIMATELY 80,000 visses of chicken are entering the poultry market in Mingala Taungnyunt Township daily, according to the market management office.

The varieties of chicken arriving at the market each day include broilers, biryani chickens, layers, spent hens sold after a decline in egg production, and native Myanmar chickens. Among them, broilers account for the largest share.

“About 80,000 visses of chicken enter the poultry market every day. The volume has remained at about the same level in recent months. Broilers make up the largest portion, at around 60,000 visses per day. Consumers also prefer broiler chickens because they are more affordable, and this leads to higher demand,” said an official from the market management office.

Chickens arriving at the poultry market come from livestock farms in Yangon Region, Ayeyawady Region and Bago Region. From there, they are redistributed and sold to several townships within Yangon Region. — ASH/KNN
