On the occasion of the Full Moon Day of Kason (Buddha Day), to promote peace of mind and compassion among the public, to encourage understanding of the State’s goodwill and benevolence, and to foster friendly relations between countries, prisoners serving sentences in various prisons, detention centres and labour camps were granted amnesty under Sub-section (1) of Section 401 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

A total of 423 prisoners, including foreign nationals who met the required criteria, were released from Insein Central Prison yesterday morning.

At the gymnasium within the compound of Insein Central Prison, officials, including Director U Myo Oo of the Yangon Region Prison Department, Insein District Administrator U Ye Htun Zaw, and Police Lt-Col Myo Myint Aung of the Insein District Police Force, delivered words of guidance.

Following this, 302 male prisoners and 114 female prisoners released from Insein Prison were transported by YBS bus according to their respective districts and townships. In addition, seven foreign nationals were duly handed over to the Immigration and Population Ministry in Insein Township. — Nyein Thu (MNA)/MKKS
