A ceremony for the Ex-
change of Letters extension
of Memorandum of Under-
standing (MoU) on cooper-
ation in the trade of black
gram and pigeon peas be-
tween Myanmar and India
was held yesterday evening
at the Parkroyal Hotel in Nay
Pyi Taw.
Deputy Minister for
Commerce U Min Min and
Indian Minister of State for
External Affairs Mr Kirit
Vardhan Singh made re-
marks at the event.
Permanent Secretary U
Aung Thwin Oo and Indian
Ambassador to Myanmar Mr
Abhay Thakur exchanged
the Exchange of Letters on
the extension of black gram
and pigeon peas trading.
The MoU signed be-
tween the Ministry of Com-
merce of Myanmar and the
Ministry of Consumer Af-
fairs, Food and Public Distri-
bution of India was extended
to further five years until the
2030-2031 financial year.
Under this agreement,
Myanmar will be allowed to
export annually up to 250,000
tonnes of black gram and
100,000 tonnes of pigeon peas
to India. This extension is
expected to enhance confidence among Myanmar’s
farmers, traders, and export-
ers in their production and
export activities. Moreover, it
can also strengthen bilater-al relationships and mutual
understanding between the
two countries, and also create good outcomes and new
pathways for cooperation in
development measures.
After the ceremony, the
dinner was served for the
delegation led by the Indian
Minister of State for External Affairs.
