The restoration of the ancient SunU Ponnyashin Pagoda on Sagaing Hill, which sustained damage during the Mandalay earthquake, has been completed, and a ceremony was held to hoist the sacred diamond orb and the pannant-shaped vane atop of the pagoda.
The grand, auspicious ceremony took place with great solemnity on the morning of 1 April at the pagoda’s platform.
The ancient SunU Ponnyashin Pagoda sustained damage to its upper spire and various structural components during the earthquake. To ensure the long-term structural integrity and preservation of this revered pagoda, comprehensive renovation works were undertaken to restore it to its former glory.
The restoration project was carried out under the guidance of the Sitagu Sayadaw, and the Ayeyawady Foundation family served as the project’s primary donors.
Through the collective contributions of devotees from all walks of life, the diamond bud and the vane were successfully refurbished and hoisted to the summit of the pagoda, marking the successful completion of the merit-sharing task.
