JAPANESE Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi on Tuesday expressed her willingness to cooperate with other Asian nations to secure petroleum products, amid crude oil supply disruptions stemming from the US-Israeli conflict with Iran. Takaichi made the remarks at the second meeting of related Cabinet members to discuss ways to alleviate the repercussions of the Middle East war on Japan’s economy, such as concerns over the stable procurement of fuel.

“We will consider mutual cooperation with Asian countries and support for them,” Takaichi said, with the aim of also preventing a negative impact on the overseas economic activities of Japanese businesses. She said her government has set up a taskforce led by industry minister Ryosei Akazawa involving related ministries to review the supply conditions of medical supplies and naphtha, a crude oil-derived raw material for plastics, among other items.
