A total of 46,835 private industries have been registered with the Directorate of Industrial Supervision and Inspection (DISI) as of the end of February 2026, the DISI’s data indicated.
Yangon Region, a commercial hub of Myanmar, is home to the private industries with 8,367 registered businesses, followed by Mandalay Region with 7,012 and Ayeyawady Region with 5,941.
The registered private industries grew to 47,609 in the financial year 2023-2024 from 45,015 registered in the 2022-2023 FY. A total of 206 industries were officially listed in the past FY 2024-2025 (April-March), reaching a total of 47,815 private industries. Some were deregistered, and the number of private industries registered with the DISI decreased to 46,835 at the end of the current financial year 2025-2026.
Almost 50 per cent of the registered private industries are engaged in the food group. The lists of registered private industries are classified into 24 business groups; food, tobacco, clothing, wood and finished wooden slabs, printing, chemical, rubber and plastic, basic mineral, computer and electronic device, unclassified machine, beverage, fabric, leather, paper and paper products, charcoal fuel, pharmaceuticals, non-metallic minerals, metal refining equipment, electronics, vehicle and trailer, furniture and machines and equipment repair and installation.
The DISI is providing services for small and medium enterprises to get access to technical assistance and funding, explore markets, register the private industrial enterprises in accordance with existing laws and conduct safety inspections of boilers and electrical usage at worksites and environmental impact assessment.
