UNDER the supervision of the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee, efforts to combat the illicit trade continue effectively in accordance with the law.
On 10 and 11 October, the combined teams supervised by the Customs Department impounded six kinds of industrial materials worth K610.276 million without official documents from nine containers at the Asia World Port Terminal container checkpoint, foodstuffs and industrial materials valued at K7.04 million from luggage of a passenger at the Yangon International Airport and a Nissan Diesel tractor head with a trailer (worth approximately K52 million) carrying three kinds of industrial materials worth K83.856 million at the Ywathagyi Dry Port. The action was conducted in line with Customs procedures.
Similarly, on 11 and 12 October, the combined teams supervised by the Yangon and Mandalay Region Illegal Trade Eradication Task Forces conducted inspections and seized illegal teak weighing 0.296 tonne worth K260,480 from a Toyota Probox (estimated value of K18 million) near Khayaybin junction on the Yangon-Pyay road in Mingaladon Township, and a micro-bus (estimated value of K35 million) carrying two kinds of industrial materials worth K9.313 million at the 21st-milepost on the PyinOoLwin-Mandalay road. The action was taken under the Forest Law and Customs procedures.
Additionally, on 13 October, the combined on-duty teams captured illegal teak weighing 10.652 tonnes and illegal hardwood weighing 2.320 tonnes worth K10.117 million in Bago and Toungoo Districts. The action was taken under the Forest Law.
The Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee reported 15 arrests from 10 to 13 October, resulting in the seizure of illegal goods worth approximately K825 million.
