The Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture, the Myanmar Cultural Heritage Conservation Organization, and the Myanmar Tea Association are working together to nominate Myanmar tea for inscription on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Currently, the Myanmar Cultural Heritage Conservation Organization and the Myanmar Tea Association (Yangon), under the guidance of the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture, are collaborating to complete the UNESCO-specified ICH-02 form and to prepare the consent letters, statement letters, and related videos.
Myanmar signed the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage on 7 April 2014.
According to the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture, tea culture will be submitted to UNESCO’s List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
To be nominated for inscription on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, an element must first be included in the national list. Therefore, the Myanmar Cultural Heritage Preservation Committee, the Myanmar Tea Association (Yangon and Mandalay), and the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture are working together to determine the official title of the tea-related intangible cultural heritage to be submitted to UNESCO.
